Stunning sunshine at Splash Point for round five of the CARA League, we arrived in Worthing for the first day of the Worthing double weekend, Worthing Regatta first followed by Worthing Town Regatta. Shoreham’s results, while positive, can only be described as a mixed bag. The club picked up two wins, and a host of second and third places, a solid squad performance albeit slightly lacking in wins comparative to the our regatta performances in the rest of the season.
As has mostly been the case this year the wins came for the ladies squad, the ladies Senior Pair took their 5th win of the season to move within one of the championship. The shock of the day came for the Ladies Senior Four whose rudder caught on the buoy turn and was obliterated leaving them with no steering and struggling for the return kilometer, despite this they held off a strong challenge from Worthing to take second place, a great result given the circumstances. The ladies Novice Four won their final after coming through the heats without breaking a sweat (this on top of taking a third rowing up in the Ladies Junior event). The Ladies Junior Four took a solid second place narrowly losing out to Bexhill, a result which was repeated in the Ladies Junior Pairs.
The men’s Junior squad had a reasonable day, picking up third places in the Fours and also in the sculls, though not making the finals of the pairs event, in which they usually perform well. Junior results from men and women combined to give Shoreham a second place in the Junior Aggregate.
