Regatta Report:
Race 7 of the 2014 CARA League was Folkestone Regatta, held under sunny skies and with a south easterly breeze. The weather was kind, although there was some white water around, something we have grown unaccustomed to in recent weeks! It is the first time in a long time the league has passed its half way point without a single cancellation or postponement… can it possibly continue?
Shoreham had another good day though some fantastic results were punctuated by some less so. The men put on a good performance with a promising forth for the Men’s Novice four, forth for the Senior Four and third for the Junior Pair. Another solid performance from Junior Sculler Tom Faith took him to within touching distance of his championship, one more win required. However he was today outshone by a fantastic row from Novice Sculler James Tilley who took is second novice win in tough conditions, rowing through from 6th at the half way point to earn his novice pin with a victory by 3 lengths.
The Shoreham ladies; as usual this season; were very impressive. The Junior Four of Charlotte Utting, Charlotte Pigg, Roxanne Addison and Harriet Chavasse smashed the field apart to close to within a single win of taking their championship. The two Charlotte’s also repeated the feat with a win in their pair. The ladies senior pair took the most impressive win of the day by a massive margin, and are also now just within one win of their championship. The senior ladies also took second in their four, after leading for a portion of the race they faltered in the last 500m and were overtaken by an impressive Worthing Four. The very consistent Ladies J16 quad had a below par day as they struggled with the conditions in fourth place.
The J14s mixed quad comprising Isobel Tugwell, Alex Apps, Alfie Scott and Ben Townley were on good form taking their race by two lengths despite the choppy water. The three boys then, rowing behind Toby Strevens went on to row a great men’s novice four race, considering their size and age they did brilliantly to beat an adult men’s crew from Worthing!
