Regatta Report:
Race 9 in the 2104 CARA league was held at Eastbourne. To the authors knowledge this is the first time in at least 10years that the first 9 regatta have gone ahead without a single cancellation! The summer is certainly a little different to last year where high winds almost all summer lead to a number of regatta not happening at all and many being postponed.
Eastbourne Regatta’s weather held off and gave great rowing conditions with a slight swell, sunny skies and little wind. Shoreham were struggling with a lot of key rowers away for the weekend, nonetheless those present rallied well and the club took 3 victories on the day, the win of the day for Shoreham must go to the Ladies Junior Four who with their 7th win of the season claimed the 2014 CARA championship in their event. The ladies also won the Junior Pair and Tom Faith took a solid victory in the Junior Sculls.
Worthing’s rowers proved the suprise of the day and must be commended for their hard work and determined rowing – even if a little controversial and sadly unrepentant with their steering they turned up in force and took a seasons best 5 victories on the day – breaking Shoreham’s domination of the ladies events by taking the Senior Four and Senior Pair. Worthing also won the Mens Novice Four, Mens Novice Scull and Ladies double scull.
