Regatta Report:
Race 8 of the 2014 CARA racing league was held at Dover under dark foreboding skies, a little rain threatened to dampen spirits early on but a good day’s racing was had by all nonetheless. With the water becoming more difficult to row upon as the wind picked up towards high tide rowers had to be on their best in order to compete.
The day held mixed fortunes for all clubs and the spoils were mainly taken by Bexhill who picked up 5 wins on the day. Shoreham, despite picking up what has been by this year’s standards a below par 3 wins, managed to win 3 CARA championships and also surpass their total victories for last year.
Shoreham rowers took 3 wins, with excellent performances in each race. The Ladies Senior Pair in a change to their usual line up comprised Gemma Stoner and Sally Hills took a 6 length victory. The Ladies Junior Pair of Charlotte Pigg and Charlotte Utting won their race easily and in the Men’s Junior Sculler Thomas Faith took victory with a dramatic last burst sprint through the line.
Second places for the Ladies Junior Four and Ladies Novice Four ensured a good overall performance from Shoreham despite missing a number of the usual racing members.
