Regatta Report:
The journey to Deal regatta from Shoreham first thing on Saturday morning was one a nervous experience as torrential rain slowed cars on M20. Nonetheless we all made it to the 8th regatta of the CARA season and just in time for the weather to clear up and give us splendid conditions for coastal racing.
As hard as it is to admit, the day belonged to Bexhill, once again, as they won the first 6 races, and 7 out of the first 8. Nonetheless it was not a bad day for Shoreham rowing club as our Senior Ladies Fours and Pairs romped home with huge victory margins in both their races. The Shoreham Junior Ladies also put on a good show to finish 4th in their fours and to pick up both second and forth in the pairs despite fielding scratch crews in both events.
We were all treated to a rare highlight as both Shoreham and Eastbourne fielded Senior Mens Fours for only the second time this season giving a competitive race with 7 crews. The Shoreham men managed a very respectable forth place after beating a strong Eastbourne crew by half a canvas.
Overall it must be said that, Deal managed a very organised and efficient regatta, and with only 19 races to complete we were all done by 4pm giving the other clubs a chance to assist the Deal locals in drinking a tribute and emptying their bar.
