The great Southampton Coastal Fours Head battle…

Blistering head winds seem to be the order of the day for this year’s head races with Southampton outdoing the Adur by adding driving rain and waves into the mix. It made for some interesting racing conditions and a baptism for fire for the Shoreham novice crews more used to the gentle swell of the harbour.

Battling the 4.5 mile course first were the men’s crews, and for Shoreham the Junior Men’s four of James, Dan, Mark & Mal. The boys rowed beautifully through the middle section, but admittedly they did lose a few precious seconds at the end of the course by taking the more original approach of stopping before the finish line, rather than after it. Junior & Adult Training Days

Dedicated to junior crews only. The day will require as many volunteers as possible will be needed to help with coxing, coaching and carrying.

A chance for racing crews this summer to receive coaching and longer training sessions. The day will be open to all crews from novice to senior and a rota for training will be sent around shortly. When not rowing all participating crews will be expected to help with coxing and other duties to ensure everyone benefits as fully as possible. SRC members only.

Expect a long but hopefully very worthwhile session!

BBQ afterwards for all!

Club Rowing April – July 2013

With the racing season upon us lots of club members will be upping their training in preparation for the first regattas. To ensure everyone has access to club equipment please read the below carefully…

From now…

  • Sundays at 9am will remain the open/drop in club session for all members including those new to the club.
  • Wednesday evenings through April will be for those racing crews/squads members to get out.

From 5th May 2013…

  • The last Sunday club session will be the 5th May. After that the racing season begins and weekends will either be spent at regattas or will be used to train and coach racing crews.
  • The open/drop in club session for all abilities will be on Wednesday evenings 6pm – 7.30pm. Any member turning up later than 6.15pm will not be guaranteed a row without prior arrangement.

Please all remember a water session is never guaranteed due to weather and demand for equipment. At times there may be a small wait for boats or you may need to train indoors instead. Remember, you love the ergo & it loves you!

For those crews/rowers wanting to train on Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays and at other weekend times contact Sarah P or Mike for help you finding coxes/subs and for help sorting coaching.

Any novice or junior crew must inform Sarah P or Mike of their outing before boating and must use the appropriate equipment only. Please see the equipment allocation list on the notice board if you are unsure what you can use.

As the evenings grow lighter sessions can go on later so those of you struggling with a 6pm start will be able to organise later outings.

Please note that there will be no rowing on Tuesday evenings for any adults using club equipment as this is our dedicated Junior training evening.

Looking forward to an exciting build up to the racing season!  – Sarah P
